Week ahead: Cold and dry - Rain midweek, Sep 26 - 09:44

A cold yet sunny and largely dry weekend, before turning more unsettled from Wednesday next week onwards. A chilly weekend but largely dry and fine although the east will hold on to cloud with some showery outbreaks of rain becoming confined to the far southeast corner. Milder in the south next week but turning more unsettled from Wednesday onwards. Currently, looking largely dry in the east by next weekend. For the weather for the next few days click here

Tuesday 29/09/20 A ridge of high pressure builds across the British Isles during Tuesday allowing for a largely dry and fine day. Although cloud will be thicker across western Ireland, Northern Ireland and west Scotland as patchy outbreaks of light rain move into these areas through the day. Southerly winds will also strengthen along coasts. Feeling mild in the southeast with highs here at 18C but cooler further north with highs at 14C in Scotland and northern England.

Wednesday 30/09/20 A wet start in the west on Wednesday but dry for eastern and most central areas before rain moves in. Some far eastern places could stay dry throughout the day although turning cloudy. Rain could be heavy for western areas and in particular across Wales in this current track of the low pressure. A cool day in the north with highs at at 12-14C here. Milder further south with max temperatures around 16-18C.

Thursday 1/10/20 Rain should clear easternmost areas in the morning on Thursday allowing for a largely dry and fine day across eastern and central areas of the UK, although more cloud and rain will push in to western areas in the afternoon. Winds will ease for a time but strengthen again as more rain spreads in from the west. Cool in the north and west with max temperatures at 10-12C. Warmer in the south and southeast with max temperatures at between 16-18C. Friday 2/10/20 Staying unsettled with outbreaks of rain, rain looking to be more across the south and west with the east and potentially the north staying drier. A cooler day for all with max temperatures in the south at 14-15C and 11C in the north. Saturday 3/10/20 UK still within a trough and with most rain expected again in the west while the east looking drier and brighter as it currently stands. Highs at 12-15C. Sunday 4/10/20 A chilly to cold night seeing a chilly start to the day on Sunday. Staying reasonably unsettled but particularly so for western areas once again. Potentially looking at it being drier and brighter further east. Max temperatures 11-14C.
