Week ahead: Cold and sunny - Rain next week, Sep 25 - 09:53

A cold weekend with dry and sunny weather for many. Turning wet and windy next week. Cool through this weekend with dry and sunny weather for many areas, although the southeast corner of England will see more in the way of cloud and outbreaks of rain. Some patchy light rain to start the week before heavier more persistent rain is expected from Wednesday onwards. Winds strengthening too. Temperatures becoming milder in the south and southeast. Monday 28/09/20 Another cool day on Monday and staying largely dry for eastern areas of England, however, a weak front will edge its way from west to east. The rain will have cleared Ireland and Northern Ireland first thing with sunny spells and showers thereafter. Outbreaks of rain will affect western and central Scotland as well as across Wales and into westernmost areas of England through the morning then on over eastern Scotland and central English areas in the afternoon. A drier and brighter scene moving in to western areas later on. Not as cold as of late with highs at 13 to 17C.

Tuesday 29/09/20 A ridge of high-pressure builds across the British Isles during Tuesday. This should give a dry day with some sunny spells for most. Cloud will be increasing across Ireland bringing some rain here later on. Highs at 13C in the north and a milder 18C in the south.

Wednesday 30/09/20 Wednesday is expected to be a more unsettled day across the north and west in particular. Expect strengthening winds and spells of rain as an area of low pressure develops and tracks eastwards across Ireland and into the Irish Sea. Rain could be heavy for western areas and in particular across Wales in this current track of the low pressure. The southeast of England is looking to stay dry with sunny spells throughout the day. A cool day in the north with highs at at 11C here and 16C further south. Thursday 1/10/20 Rain should clear easternmost areas first thing on Thursday allowing for a largely dry and fine day across eastern and central areas of the UK, although cloud and rain will push in to western areas in the afternoon. Winds will ease for a time but strengthen again as more rain spreads in from the west. Max temperatures range from 13C in the north and 17C in the south. Friday 2/10/20 Staying unsettled with outbreaks of rain currently pushing from south to north. A brisk southerly wind in the north too. Could be reasonably mild in the south east with max temperatures here rising to 18-19C but cooler in the north at 12-14C. Saturday 3/10/20 UK still under a trough by the weekend, however, it looks to be drier in the north and east with rain affecting more of the south and west again. Highs at 11 to 17C.
