Week ahead: Cooler and showery - Overnight frost risk, Sep 23 - 09:39

Colder, mixed conditions with most showers in the east this weekend, then staying mixed next week Much cooler weather through the course of the coming week. Showers through Friday with a brisk northerly wind. The showers then more focussed over eastern England on Saturday with some uncertainty over whether there will be rain in the southwest. Sunday looks drier overall. Clearer skies overnight may bring a touch of ground frost to central and northern areas. Staying cool into next week too with showery rain. Saturday 26/09/20 High pressure over the British Isles brings a chilly but mostly dry and fine start to the weekend. There will be plenty of sunshine across many parts of the British Isles. Eastern parts of England are likely to be breezier with periods of showers merging to longer spells of rain at times.Increased cloud may affect southern Ireland and southwest England with a low chance of some rain here. Feeling cold for all, especially in the strong northerly wind over eastern areas. Highs at 9 to 14C.

Sunday 27/09/20 A chilly start to the day with some mist and fog patches in northern and western areas as well as a touch of ground frost. Plenty of sunshine during the day and mostly dry to. Eastern parts of England will again be troubled by some showers feeding in from the sea and it is here that it will be feeling coolest. Increased cloud across western parts of Ireland bringing the threat of some patchy rain later. Highs at 10 to 14C.

Monday 28/09/20 Another cool day on Monday with some cloud and showery spots of rain affecting western parts of the UK. Eastern areas are likely to be drier and brighter with some sunny spells here. Broken cloud in Ireland and mostly dry although there could be a few showers in the far west. A little milder with highs at 13 to 16C. Tuesday 29/09/20 A week rate of high-pressure may build across the British Isles during Tuesday. This should give a dry day with some sunny spells for most. Cloud will be increasing across Ireland bringing some rain here. Highs at 13 to 17C. Wednesday 30/09/20 Wednesday is expected to be a more changeable day across the UK and Ireland. There will be some rain and also showers. Most of the rain appears to be in the east with western air is becoming brighter although more showery. A cool day at 11 to 14C. Thursday 1/10/20 A cool day in sunny spells and showers. The showers could be heavy at times. Some sunny spells between the showers. Highs at 8 to 12C.
