Week ahead: Weekend heat - Thundery showers next week, Sep 09 - 11:15

Very warm at the weekend but then thundery showers breaking out next week Some rain in northern parts of the Uk over the next few days, mostly dry in the south. Temperatures vary widely but will become hot through Sunday and Monday. This heat then triggers showers, some of them heavy and thundery with conditions generally showery into the middle of next week. For the weather for the next few days click here Saturday 12/9/20 A fair day over much of England and Wales as well as southern Ireland. Low pressure close to northern Scotland bringing winds here with some heavy showers in the north and west. Eastern and southern areas of Scotland should be brighter with sunny spells. Increasing cloud and periods of rain moving into western and northern Ireland. Staying fair in England and Wales, best sunshine in the east. Highs at 21C in southeastern England, 14 to 17C for most other areas.

Sunday 13/9/20 An area of low pressure passing through Scotland on Sunday. This brings the risk of some heavier periods of rain here, together with stronger winds. Further rain may affect northern and western Ireland. Eastern Ireland, most of England and Wales will be dry with broken cloud and sunny spells, the best in the east and south. Highs at 24C in southern England, 23C in southeast Ireland, 22C in eastern Scotland, 16C in northwest Scotland.

Monday 14/9/20 Staying dry and very warm for most on Monday. It should be generally dry with sunny intervals. There may be some cloud around northern coasts of Scotland, but generally a fair day is expected. Highs at 21 to 29C.

Tuesday 15/9/20 A shallow area of low pressure drifts over the UK and Ireland on Tuesday. This brings the threat of showers, some of them thundery. There will be drier areas too with some bright or sunny spells. Temperaures at 22 to 27C.

Wednesday 16/9/20 Further showers on Wednesday as lower pressure drifts eastwards, although these are probably going to be be scattered. Tending to become drier from the west as a ridge of high pressure builds. Highs at a cooler 14 to 21C. Thursday 17/9/20 Fair over much of England and Wales with a ridge of high pressure remaining. Cloud and rain in western and northern parts of Ireland, this affecting much of Scotland too. Windy in Scotland. Highs at 16 to 22C.
