European Summary: Some snow for Alps - Windy southern Spain & Portugal, Feb 19 - 04:43

Unsettled across northern Europe this weekend Friday A breezy day for southern Spain & Portugal, although dry and fairly mild, highs 17C in the Algarve. Quiet weather across much of the Mediterranean, although locally brisk winds. Broken cloud and some sunshine for Italy and Greece. A few showers may drift onto Biscay coasts, but much of France will be dry. Areas of snow affect the French & Swiss Alps, perhaps also western Austria. Low pressure over eastern Europe brings a mix of rain and snow to Poland, the eastern Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and western Romania. Isolated showers for Germany, and fairly cool at 5C. Bright skies for Belgium & the Netherlands. Cloudy around the Baltic, with snow flurries. Breezy in Norway, with patchy rain in the west. Mostly dry and bright for Sweden.

Saturday High pressure extends from the Atlantic across northern Iberia, whilst low pressure will affect northern Europe. Strong easterly winds for southern Spain, risk of local thundery showers around Gibraltar Strait. Warm in southern Portugal. Dry across the north & east of Spain, plus southern France. Showery rain is likely to affect southern Italy and the Balkan states, and may extend to mainland Greece, although the islands should stay dry. Fair too for Cyprus. Windy for northern France, the Low Countries & Germany, with outbreaks of rain spreading from the west. Largely dry across the Alps, possible snow flurries in the west. A little snow for eastern Europe. Windy and unsettled for Scandinavia, with heavy rain and snow.
