Week ahead: Unsettled throughout - Rain, sleet and snow, Feb 01 - 16:41

Unsettled and windy with rain, sleet and snow An unsettled week ahead with low pressure bringing strong winds and rain at times. Temperatures will be varying and although they will be some cold days these will not be anything significant. There will be snow at times in Scotland and over the hills of northern England, Wales and Ireland. Signs of some stormy weather for the weekend.

For the weather for the next few days click here Thursday 4/2/16 A warm front passes eastwards overnight into Thursday bringing cloud and rain. It leaves behind a cloudy and damp morning for many on Thursday, most of any drizzle all rain falling over high ground. There is likely to be plenty of hill and coastal fog around Western and southern coasts. The afternoon stays rather cloudy for many with drizzle on the hills, although where sheltered from the south-west wind a few bright spells may occur. More persistent rain affecting Northwest Scotland. A windy day for western Scotland and for Ireland. Much milder than recently with temperatures at 9 to 13°C.

Friday 5/2/16 Low pressure to the north west of Scotland on Friday will be pushing fronts eastwards. These bring heavy bursts of rain, mostly through Scotland, Wales, Southwest England and Northwest England and then passed eastwards through the afternoon. Strong gusts of wind ahead of the rain which will be followed by heavy showers for western Scotland and Ireland. Temperatures reaching 6 to 10°C.

Saturday 6/2/16 Low pressure dominates the weather through Saturday and is expected to be centred in North of Scotland. It will bring the risk of some heavy rain too many northern and western areas, although the east may stay dry until evening. Colder air follows into western areas bringing wintry showers later. Chilly day at 4 to 8°C.

Sunday 7/2/16 Low pressure again dominates through Sunday bringing the threat of some heavy rain and strong winds too many. Gales may be severe through Ireland, Wales and southern England. The rain is likely to be less persistent and lighter across much of northern and western Scotland. Highs near 3 to 12C. Monday 8/2/16 A cold day on Monday with low pressure to the north east of Scotland. All areas will have a mix of sunshine and showers. Most of the showers will be in more western parts of these falling as snow in Scotland and as snow over the hills of England and Wales as well as Ireland. Probably drier towards the east. Highs near 3 to 8°C. Tuesday 9/2/16 Another day of sunshine and showers on Tuesday and feeling cool once again. The showers will be wintry at times although they will tend to fade during the later part of the day. Temperatures reaching 2 to 8°C.
