Week ahead: Turning unsettled - Wind and rain, Mar 22 - 11:15

Becoming much more unsettled with wind and rain The weather is about to turn much more unsettled as the jet stream returns and strengthens across the UK and Ireland. This is going to be bringing spells of more unsettled weather with rain and showers. There is the threat of more significant wind and rain on Holiday Monday, although much uncertainty surrounds this right now.

For the weather for the next few days click here Good Friday 25/3/16 A risk of some heavy periods of rain overnight into Friday across southern and southeastern England. A ridge of high pressure builds through the UK during the day on Friday with rain clearing the southeast. It should be a dry day overall with sunny spells. Breezy over western Ireland and western Scotland. Tops at 9 to 14C.

Saturday 26/3/16 Low pressure becomes dominant through Saturday. Bands of rain will be passing eastwards during the day and it is likely to be breezy too. Rain could be heavy in the west. Highs at 10 to 14C.

Easter Sunday 27/3/16 Low pressure remains in control on Sunday. This brings a mix of sunshine and showers. Most of the showers through western and southern areas where they could be heavy at times and may even merge into longer spells of rain. Highs at 9 to 13C.

Holiday Monday 28/3/16 Bank Holiday Monday brings low pressure across the UK and Ireland again. There is a risk of severe gales sweeping eastwards, together with heavy rain, followed by showers, although this is considered a low risk at this time. Less showers are likely in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Tops near 10 to 15C. Tuesday 29/3/16 Probably staying unsettled on Tuesday with low pressure close to northern Scotland. Rain and showers affecting much of England and Wales, some of them heavy. Highs at 8 to 15C. Wednesday 30/3/16 A brighter day is likely on Wednesday. Low pressure is to the west of Ireland bringing sunshine and showers. More persistent rain may affect Ireland. Highs at 9 to 14C.
