Week ahead: Hill snow - Cold for all Apr 19 - 11:16

Turning chillier with a risk of hill snow Things are set to turn cold through the weekend and into the new week. Low pressure to the east of the country and high pressure to the west conspiring to give a cold, northerly flow to all areas. This give rain and showers, most north and east with the risk of snow on hills. late season frosts may also occur.

For the weather for the next few days click here Friday 22/4/16 High pressure remains west of Scotland on Friday. Cloud and some outbreaks of rain in the far south of England and southern Wales with fronts passing eastwards. A further front brings some cloud and showery rain southwards through Scotland and into the far northeast of England. Brighter skies over more western areas where there will be some sunny spells. Tops at a much cooler 8 to 13C.

Saturday 23/4/16 A cool airflow is likely to become widespread through the weekend. Increasingly showery conditions spreading from the north and north-east - snow on higher northern hills, perhaps snow to low levels northern Scotland. Sunny spells, best in the west and south. A chilly northerly wind. Risk a slight frost at dawn. Temperatures falling from the north, highs 8 to 11C, locally 13C south-west.

Sunday 24/4/16 Chilly conditions expected across Britain and Ireland as northerly winds dominate. Showers developing and spreading from the north. An area of low pressure may move south through the North Sea bringing increased winds and the threat of rain in the east. Top temperatures at just 7 to 10C.

Monday 25/4/16 Monday is likely to remain distinctly cool for late April. Low pressure remaining near or to the east of the UK brings a risk of widespread showers or some longer periods of rain. Snow on the hills at times. Tending to be drier to the west. Risk of frost overnight. Highs 7 to 11C.

Tuesday 26/4/16 Unsettled and cool conditions likely to continue. Areas of persistent rain or showers, some snow on hills as low pressure moves into Germany. Chilly winds bringing most of the showers around northern, western and eastern coasts. Highs 7 to 12C. Wednesday 27/4/16 Little change on Wednesday with low pressure remaining to the east and higher pressure to the west. Showers moving south in the northerly flow bringing further bands of showers southwards. Tops at 6 to 9C.
