Week ahead: Chilly - Mostly cloudy, Feb 09 - 09:38

Becoming less cold next week High pressure will reside close to the British Isles over the week ahead, bringing mostly dry conditions. A bitterly cold easterly wind will bring some snow this weekend. Generally dull with leaden skies for most places early next week. Temperatures will lift slowly from the south during next week. For the weather for the next few days click here

Sunday 12/02/17 A cold and brisk easterly wind affects the British Isles, giving a significant wind chill factor, particularly in the south & east. A lot of cloud, and local drizzly showers or snow flurries, although amounts small. Some brightness to the lee of high ground in the west, generally best in western Scotland & Northern Ireland. Top temperatures 2 to 5C, but feeling sub-zero in the wind.

Monday 13/02/17 Little change in the weather pattern, with high pressure centred to the north-east of Britain, and low pressure to the south-west. A strong easterly wind affects central and southern regions, maintaining the cold feel. Largely dry and cloudy. Some snow flurries or patches of drizzle, mainly over eastern facing hills in northern England, perhaps also the south-west. Highs 3 to 6C.

Tuesday 14/02/17 Becoming gradually less cold in the south as the wind flow turns south-easterly. A lot of low cloud and murk is likely to persist. Patchy rain toward the south-west. Many places should stay dry. Brightest conditions toward the north-west, particularly Scotland. Frosty in the north where skies clear. Temperatures 3 to 7C.

Wednesday 15/02/17 High pressure centred toward the east maintains largely dry conditions, although patchy drizzly rain may affect the west & south-west. Largely cloudy and dull, some fog patches. Winds becoming light, and feeling less cold overall. Highs 4 to 8C. Thursday 16/02/17 Pressure is expected to remain generally high. Dry and dull for many. A little rain or drizzle locally. Some fog patches. Winds mostly light, although a breeze may freshen on coasts. Highs 5 to 9C, mildest in south-west. Friday 17/02/17 Generally dry, but rather murky, with areas of low cloud and fog. Some sunshine may break through. Risk a little drizzly rain. Winds fairly light, although direction uncertain, which will impact local temperatures, 5 to 9C.
