UK Forecast: Much cooler - Rain, heavy showers, Jul 27 - 15:17

Saturday A complex day of weather as the heat breaks down, and areas of rain advance north-eastwards across the country. Some persistent rain, heavy at times focused toward northern and eastern areas in the morning, but followed by clusters of showers from the west, some of these heavy with isolated thunder in the afternoon. Sunny spells developing away from showers, and a much fresher feel. Blustery southwesterly winds. Highs 19 to 25C.

Saturday night A developing Atlantic low sweeps in from the south-west in the early hours. Winds will strengthen, reaching gale force around exposed coasts and over hills. Rain sweeps in, becoming persistent and heavy for several hours in the west, and will lead to a wet start for many on Sunday. Residual rain for north-west Scotland overnight. East and northern England should be dry for several hours. Temperatures 10 to 15C, locally cooler in Scotland.

Sunday An active area of low pressure swings in from the south-west, bringing heavy rain and winds reaching gale force in places, focused on coasts in the west & south-west, and also over many hilly regions. The strong winds will transfer east through the day. A swathe of rain will set in for several hours, heavy at times, then clearing eastwards leaving sunshine and showers spreading from the west in the afternoon. Top temperatures 17 to 22C.

Monday Low pressure stays to the north-west, promoting a south to southwesterly breeze, strongest in the west & north-west. Clusters of showers, most frequent for the north and west of Britain and Ireland, whilst the Midlands and south-east will be commonly dry with scattered passing showers and periods of sunshine. Chance of local heavy or thundery downpours. A fresh feel, 17 to 22C for many, up to 26C in the far south-east.
