Week ahead: Cool start to the week - Temperatures recovering into June, May 26 - 09:02

A cooler start to the working week before temperatures recover to bring a warm start to June An unsettled spell of weather brings periods of rain and showers and cooler temperatures. Breezy at times too. There are hints of higher pressure building to the south as we head into June which would bring a more settled spell of weather and warmer temperatures for many.

For the weather for the next few days click here Wednesday 29/05/19 Low pressure is to the northeast on Wednesday while a weak ridge of high pressure is to the southwest. A band of rain affecting Scotland through the first part of the day while showers will develop over central and eastern parts of England. Cloud building over western areas through the day before a front brings rain into Ireland during the second half of the afternoon. Another chilly day at 11 to 13C in the north and west, 15 to 17C in the south and east though a few favoured spots may reach 19C.

Thursday 30/05/19 Rain affecting England, Wales and southern Scotland first thing as an area of low pressure moves across the southern UK. Showers affecting Ireland where it will start rather cloudy. Rain clearing to the east through the early afternoon leaving cloudy conditions with showers, some of them heavy. A drier and brighter day for central and northern Scotland. High temperatures ranging from 9 to 19C: coolest in the northeast, milder in south and west.

Friday 31/05/19 High pressure is to the south on Friday while an area of low pressure to the northwest brings heavy rain to the northern half of Ireland, north Wales, northern parts of England and southern and central Scotland. Rain will edge to the north through the afternoon leaving cloudy conditions and showers to the south. Staying dry, but cloudy, for southern parts of England and Wales. Highs at 11C in northern Scotland, 23C in southeastern England. More generally from 13 to 19C.

Saturday 01/06/19 High pressure builds from the south on Saturday bringing a mostly dry and fair day. Best of the sunshine in the south, cloudier skies to the north. A few showers may develop over Ireland and western Scotland later. High temperatures at 16 to 18C in Scotland, 19 to 24C everywhere else.

Sunday 02/06/19 Low pressure to the northwest brings showers and patchy rain to northern areas on Sunday. Dry and bright in the southern half of the country. High temperatures at 16 to 17C in northwestern parts of Scotland and Ireland, 18 to 25C elsewhere. Monday 03/06/19 High pressure builds once more on Monday bringing a mixture of cloudy skies and good sunny spells. Some showers may develop through the afternoon. High temperatures from 12C in the north of Scotland to 23C in the southeast of England.
