Week ahead: Hot in south - Thunderstorms, Aug 10 - 09:37

Temperatures staying high in the south until midweek before cooling off. Heavy showers about affecting many this week, some thundery. High temperatures set to continue until Thursday for the south and southeast. Heavy showers, and for some developing thunderstorms, are expected across much of the country this week. The UK under low pressure at the weekend and more mixed conditions foreseen into the following week.

For the weather for the next few days click here Thursday 13/08/20 Thursday looks to be unsettled across England and Wales with showers about, many will be heavy and some thundery. Ireland and Northern Ireland will start off dry with sunny spells but cloud will soon thicken as showers or longer spells of rain move in through the afternoon, likely to be heavy across parts of Ireland. Scotland should stay mainly dry but rather cloudy. The far north and Northen Isles will see the best of the sunshine. There will be a brisk northeasterly wind along the coasts. Highs at 18 to 25C.

Friday 14/08/20 Staying unsettled across England, Wales, Ireland and Northern Ireland with showers continuing. Currently the heaviest showers could be across the southeast of England, southern Ireland and parts of Wales. It will be largely dry across Scotland although some showers will affect southern regions of the country. The far north of Scotland is likely to see sunny spells and stay dry throughout. High temperatures at 17 to 26C.

Saturday 15/08/20 A dry start for many throughout the UK and Ireland with plenty of sunshine across southern England, although heavy showers are expected across central Scotland. Cloud will soon build with showers developing mainly across central England and over Ireland and Northern Ireland. The afternoon will see more showers, some heavy and thundery, push up across southern England, while showers move into more western parts of Scotland allowing for more eastern areas to become largely dry. Highs range from 16 to 26C.

Sunday 16/08/20 With low pressure still influencing more unsettled conditions over the southern half of the UK as well as Ireland and Northern Ireland, showers, heavy at times, will continue, possibly thundery across parts of Wales and central and western parts of England. Once again Scotland will fair the best of the drier conditions although southwestern parts are likely to see some showers. Dry and fine weather for the Northern Isles. Highs range from 17 to 25C.

Monday 17/08/20 Monday sees mixed conditions continue for the UK and Ireland with low pressure staying close by. Another day with widespread showers, these locally heavy possibly more so over Ireland, and some spells of sunshine. Potentially turning briefly very warm again in the south and southeast with highs here at 27C. Cooler further north with highs at 17C. Tuesday 18/08/20 Tuesday could see the southern half of the UK continue with mixed conditions and the northern half receive drier and sunnier weather. High temperatures range from 18 to 25C.
